Abstract
Museum collections contain increasing numbers of plastic objects. Since the first production of plastics at the beginning of the twentieth century, a wide variety of plastics has been brought onto the market. Currently, there are hundreds of different types of plastics, each with
specific properties to suit their purpose. Because of the unfamiliarity and complexity of modern plastics, recognition of modern plastics by their visual appearance is not very easy, and chemical analysis is often required.
