Abstract
During the Iranian Expeditions carried out by the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, a great number of Islamic pottery dating fronm the 7th to the 18th century were excavated. These are kept in part at the Museum, and exhibited. Kiln wastes as well as fragments of alkaline glazed pottery, sgraffito ceramics, imitation luster wares, slip painted pottery, have been analysed mineralogically, petrographically and chemically for the characterization of the ceramic bodiesm the slip and glazes. The latter have been analysed by X-ray microprobe in order to determine their composition and the nature of their colour (pigments).
