This is the first report on an international research project sponsored by the Rome Centre. It summarizes results of climatic measurements, photographic survey and laboratory analyses. Deterioration processes of mud brick sturctures are discussed and experiments of surface preservation by means of ethyl silicate are described. -- AATA
