Abstract
The manufacturing techniques of unglazed pottery from Ban Chiang in northwest Thailand, dating from 4000 BC to 200 AD, are discussed briefly in connection with the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibition. Composition of clays, methods of shaping, and types of decoration are compared to present-day techniques. The use of thermoluminescence dating of shards is mentioned. -- AATA
