Abstract
A lacquer chest of drawers build by Leonard Boudin (1735-1804) from the funds of the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Applied Arts Museum), Berlin, in the Castle of Kopenick was restored. The different techniques and the structure of lacquer painting as well as the problems of conservation, restoration and care of European lacquered furniture are discussed. On the basis of old formulas for the 18th century it was possible to produce a contemporary European lacquer varnish and to reconstruct the destroyed lacquered parts on the Boudin chest of drawers back to their original form. -- AATA
