Abstract
The metamorphic limestones used in Venice in various periods and their provenance arereviewed. Their aging processes are due mainly to thermal shock and to weathering due to acids and aerosols. The fine grain marble resists decay better, and hydrogen sulphide is present particularly in veined marble. The thiobacteria cause red to pink stains. The results of consolidation treatments carried out in Venice after ten to fifteen years exposure are presented. See also AATA 14-451 and 16-822 for related studies and 21-2065 for conference proceedings. -- AATA
