Abstract
The above paintings were first restored in 1951 by Lász1ó Bartha. Since there was nodocumentation on this earlier restoration, it was necessary to carry out scientific research prior to further intervention in order to save the rapidly decaying paintings. New results have been arrived at regarding their age and the earlier conservation treatment was identified: Bartha used salicyl (sic) dissolved in spirit to prevent the spreading of organisms. The salicyl later deposited on the surface and formed a disturbing greyish-white film. -- AATA
