Abstract
Primal WS 12, 24, 32, and 50, colloidal dispersions of an acrylic resin, are supplied by Rohm and Haas in a water/alcohol system. The Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, at the National Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark, became interested in these products as a possible altemative to freeze-drying, especially in cases where the waterlogged material, such as antler, tusks, or horn, did not respond well to dehydration. Recently, several fragments of archaeological stained glass were excavated from a waterlogged site. Primal WS 24 in 20% aqueous solution was used to consolidate the flaking surfaces. Further examples are discussed.
