Abstract
The approach taken to the teaching of book conservation practice in the Columbia University course is described. It includes use of historical structure study to determine strengths/weakness in particular structures and the preparation of binding prototypes, also used for teaching specification. The index is reproduced for the Student guide to book conservation practice, the lab book prepared for the course.
