This study is based on a model of a spinning and weaving shop and a fragment of a sheet, both found in the Middle Kingdom tomb of Meket-RÃŽ32 at Thebes. The sheet and model help to interpret the somewhat confusing perspective of the wall drawings of looms from the tomb of Shnem-hotep illustrated and discussed by H. Ling Roth in Ancient Egyptian and Greek looms, Bankfield Museum, Halifax, Eng. (second ed. 1951). By the study of all three the criteria is established for recognizing fabrics woven on such looms and the reason for a fringe on one side of a dynastic sheet becomes apparent.
