Specific principles inform all conservation decision making regardless of the class of object being considered. Within the various conservation specialties particular treatment procedures have been successful and are therefore commonly used. Many textile and paper objects possess chemical and physical similarities that allow for the transfer of treatment procedure and technique from one area of specialty to another. Pertinent aspects of two case studies, the wet cleaning of a candlewick bedcover, and the support and mounting of a printed silk broadside, illustrate this exchange, and are presented here along with the theories and logic that guided their treatment design.
