Abstract
Part 1 of 5 parts considers: the influences of sulphuric acid and calcium sulphate on the setting-time, strength and stability of cement; the compositions and modus operandi of classes of set- retarders - inorganic salts, organic compounds, additives such as H<sub>3</sub>PO<sub>4</sub> and NaH<sub>2</sub>PO<sub>4</sub>. Retarders described: R (silicofluorides, chiefly magnesium), N (hexites), P (polyhydroxybenzoic acids), M (magnesium silicofluoride) studied using a trial cement.(DIN 1164) at various concentrations, temperatures 20° and 30°C and RH 90- 95per thousand and 40-50per thousand.
