The reasoning behind and the organization of the evacuation plan for Amerongen Castle is explained. The three phases of the plan are: evacuation, immediate shelter and aftercare. Requirements and suggestions for the evacuation team are given. A well planned coordination with the fire brigade is essential, because in case of fire its commanding officer is in charge unconditionally. It is advisable to make an agreement with the officer about which organizations can be called in for help in the evacuation and cleaning. Information regarding the objects to be salvaged has to be stored in a safe place, accessible to members of the evacuation team and the firemen. Materials needed in case of an evacuation, such as protective clothing for personnel and packing materials for objects, should be stored in cupboards near entrances or outside the building. It is essential to have a good overview over salvaged objects. Registration of the objects taken out of the building should start forthwith. The after care requires the assistance from professional conservators and a proper storage and working room. Agreements to this effect must be made beforehand. The aftercare should start within 24 hours. A strong counteraction against Murphy's Law is recommended.
