Abstract
The author describes the changing situation of the fire brigades in the Netherlands and its effects on the organization and the training and instruction of the approx. 28,000 members in the approx. 700 brigades, 85per thousand of whom are volunteers. The instruction hardly includes any information about museums and cultural objects. The course of events in the case of a fire alarm is given. Unless the fire brigade has an action plan available they know nothing about the building and its contents; nor do they know anything of a possible disaster plan or an evacuation plan. An action plan is best developed in close cooperation with the firemen, following the rules set out by the Ministry.
