Abstract
Land races of several cultivated species are described commonly in terms of qualitative or multistate traits used as deacriptors from the point of view of germplasm documentation and first characterization. For breeding purposes aimed at improving genetically quantitative traits in bean land races, further characterization and evaluation including plant architecture as wella as pod and seed quality based on traits with a consistent genetic basis and low genotype-environment interaction is necessary. From this point of view, genetic parameters such as broad-sense heritability and constancy will enable determination of which quantitative traits measured should be included as descriptors of bean land races for taxonomic classification and further breeding purposes.
