28 specimens were analysed at the U.S. Geological Survey by a semi-quantitative spectrographic method -- Group I: a single Sasanian bowl; II: datable Sasanian coins and bowls; III: bowls dated Sasanian on stylistic grounds alone; IV: post-Sasanian objects; V: Byzantine hallmark silver of the 6th-7th centuries A.D.; VI: odd specimens plus one stealing silver control. The principal impurities are Pb and Cu; in about half the pieces Au and Bi occur alone in the 0.1 to 1.0% bracket. Most impurities are in the bracket 0.01-0. 1%. A few elements are reported in the 0.001-0.01% range. Byzantine hallmark silver is of high quality. Coin Ag seems to have the same general composition as Ag plate. Minor and trace elements are abundant, but seem to have little special significance.
