Abstract
A brief history of kraft pulping: to document, attribute, and integrate the historical events. Carl P. Dahl in 1884 submits the first patent. In 1885 the first mill was built in Jonkoping, Sweden. Kraft chemical odors were a serious problem. In 1907 the first commercial kraft mill in North America opened in Canada. In 1909 two mills were started in the USA. Southern yellow pine in the USA was found suitable to the kraft process and sawmill residues were regularly used. The kraft pulp made strong paper. -- AATA
