The reorganization of the ethnographic storage of the Royal Scottish Museum involved the use of standardized cupboards with the objects stored on trays made of the inert ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). These trays have runners on the sides and can be placed in the cupboards at various levels, thus making the system flexible. Costumes are stored in large bays in a cellar wall like wardrobes, and garments hang from a rail. The hangers are padded to avoid damage to fragile textiles. Weapons are tied to sliding wire mesh-covered frames. Climate is controlled by a ducted ventilation system and relative humidity is augmented by a portable humidifier.
