This is a brief note based on a statement by the Museum Lighting Subcommittee of the National Illumination Committee of Great Britain. It dismisses the fear of deterioration caused by fluorescent bulbs, because fluorescent tubes only have two thirds of the percentage amount of UV radiation compared with sunlight, and because of the generally low level of radiation in ordinary use arising from fluorescent tubes as compared with daylight. Editor's Note: this was a preliminary note on the concerns attending the large scale introduction of fluorescent tubes in museums. This comment, along with the observations made in abstracts 197, 198 and 199, must be compared with the subsequent conclusions drawn by such authors as Balder (204) and Thomson (207) who did note fading by the UV component of fluorescent tubes based on their own experimental work.
