Abstract
The socio-economic value of urban monuments presents a complex profile defined by its constituent attributes, such as age, originality, artistic quality, period and style, integration in the urban context, etc., and, in some cases, the physical condition of the monument. This value should be assessed with the greatest care in the current period of economic stagnation. The aim of this paper is to design a multi-attribute utility methodology which might provide an operational basis for selecting monument conservation plans in the context of a comprehensive plan for the maintenance of the cultural heritage of a city or nation. A specific strategy concerning three old churches in Amsterdam is presented as an example of priority ranking design under budget constraints. The criteria used are listed and discussed. -- AATA
