Abstract
When the conservator at the National Gallery (Washington, DC) determine that a work on paper requires bleaching agent, they use hydrogen peroxide diluted with magnesium bicarbonate as the bleaching agent. In tests on newsprint they have found that magnesium bicarbonate, used alone or in conjunction wiht hydrogen peroside, greatly reduce darkening of paper when it is exposed to light.
