Abstract
An exhaustive contribution to the history of finishes technology in the years 1750-1850: historic painting materials, their process and craft; the first gart; an sites. Problems of their conservation and reuse, with special reference to La Buca papermill. With numerous of finishing materials: dye stuff and lake pigments; natural and synthetic pigments; balsams, gums, and resins; binders, solvents, and thinners. The second part explains how these materials were processed to form the three basic types of decorative and protective finishes: pigmented finishes, resin finishes, and tinted resin finishes.
