Abstract
The examination and the restoration of many terra cotta statues painted with Tanagra from the 3rd century A.D., received in 1979 by the Restoration Laboratory of mural paintings. Detailed visual examination and micro-chemical analysis, conducted in the Laboratory of Chemistry at the museum, were used to identify the technique and to choose the processes of restoration and of cleaning. The method of restoration is intended to make paintings on a porous support more durable and permanent.
