Abstract
Chromate and molybdate pigments of controlled solubility are useful in paint primer coatings designed for corrosion inhibition. A study was made of calcium and zinc molybdates to determine their corrosion inhibiting properties. In some instances these pigments, either alone or with a topcoat, exhibited anti-corrosion properties which equalled or exceeded those of read lead under test conditions. Suggestions for possible uses of these materials are given. Molybdates offer the advantages of being both non-toxic and white. The following performance order could be established: 1. calcium molybdate, 2. normal zinc molybdate, and 3. zinc molybdate.
