Abstract
The age of the fossil hominid and artifact-bearing travertine deposit at Bilzingsleben in the German Democratic Republic was dated, using the 230Th-234U method, at ca. 228,000 years. The floral and faunal fossil assemblages are interglacial in character and indicate a depositional climate warmer than at present. The age and floral-faunal associations correlate the Bilzings-leben deposits with stage 7 of the marine oxygen isotope record and the penultimate interglacial observed in the European and North American speleothem records. -- AATA
