Abstract
The Romanesque floor, made of estrich-gypsum, was investigated. The point of interest was its composition and corrosion. Intergranular porosity is the most important factor causing chemical corrosion. Chemical corrosion appeared mainly in the mechanical cracks of the floor. The corrosion took the form of craters, in decorated parts of the floor, or valleys in nondecorated parts. The corrosion created by the dissolution of gypsum crystals caused increased porosity, which was observed by optical and scanning electron (SEM) microscopy. -- AATA
