In Belgium, the policy concerning the preservation of monuments and sites has recently undergone considerable change. The authority of the provincial governments resides on a level between regional government and local authorities. The province of Limburg is trying to organize a sector for the preservation of cultural heritage. The sector is composed of specialized bureaus: nature, landscape, archaeology, history of art and architecture, care of monuments and sites, museums, etc. Their task is to elaborate inventories, to set up scientific and technical workshops, and to open up documentation centers.
