Identification of wood was initiated to answer anthropological questions at the Ozette Project but was utilized extensively as an aid in determining conservation methods. Botanical analysis is discussed with emphasis on microscopic technique for identification of wood genera. Question period included discussion of what is meant by hardwood and softwood, methods of obtaining samples for microscopic analysis, and use of ultraviolet radiation for identification of certain species of wood.
