Abstract
In previous studies it was determined that the stuffing of chrome retanned Army shoe leather overshadowed all other process influence on the water resistance of leather. The present study was undertaken to determine the influence of variation of stuffing mixture composition on water resistance. The test results represent data on leather samples which have been stuffed, conditioned and tested. How aging would influence the resistance of the various stuffed leathers is yet to be considered. The work completed shows the following points: 1) New leather is much more water resistant than fatliquored leather even when the total grease content is the same in both leathers, and 2) Varying the composition of a stuffing mixture over a wide range does not materially influence the water resistance to any great extent.
