Abstract
Results of research on Togau and Faiz Mohammad ceramics from prehistoric Mehrgarh in Baluchistan, Pakistan, and processing of decorative paints on prehistoric ceramics are discussed. On prehistoric ceramics of the Near East, two basic technologies were used to achieve the red and black coloration. One utilized manganese oxide for black and iron oxide for red, firing in an oxidizing atmosphere. The other used iron oxide for both red and black, firing in a reducing atmosphere. A variant of the second method was developed in Mehrgarh.
