Abstract
Three coatings for bronze sculpture are discussed: Incralac (an acrylic), Vestar (a silicone), and wax. Methods of application, good and bad features of each coating, and trade names and manufacturers' addresses are given. The author is head of the Patina Department at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture. Incralac is a solvent-based acrylic with benzotriazole, and can be applied by brushing or spraying. Vestar (D or Corning Vestar Q9-6503) is applied by spraying or dipping and requires a thirty minute cure at 300 F to form a tough glass-like coal. Wax is applied warm by stippling with a bristle brush and laterbuffed. -- AATA
