Abstract
Described are investigations of the marks left by decorative punches used by silversmiths in the creation of a famous Danish cauldron and also in a group of silver foil fibulas. Marks made by punches, hammers, scrapers and soldering were cast in two-component silicone rubber, then studied through scanning electron microscope photographs. Coincident details were marked, and similarities were identified. The technique may be used to link archaeological finds because they bear traces of the same identified tools. Photographs, color plates, map, photomicrographs, figures, references. -- ICCROM
