Abstract
The definition and the functions of an archaeological conservator (including examination, interpreting technological evidence and preservation) are discussed. The aims of treatments and the aims of accepted ethics are examined. The relationship between the conservator and the archaeologist is considered. The need for a division of responsibilities in the field is proposed. -- ICCROM
