Abstract
An Iron Age warrior's grave, the first found in 50 years, was discovered in 1982 in Guernsey. The grave contents were lifted in blocks of earth and transferred to oxford, england, for conservation and study. The processes of lifting, packing and transporting are described, as are the conservation treatments of the iron (a sword, a sword boss, and several small objects) and the organic remains (textiles, horn, leather, and wood) revealed by cleaning. Photographs, diagram, references. -- ICCROM
