Abstract
This newsletter contains the autobiographical sketch of Walter Angst, a Swiss who immigrated with his family to the United States in 1951. His story reveals not only his indomitable will to succeed against formidable odds, but also a certain cruelty inflicted on common people by Swiss as well as American society. In 1984 Walter Angst retired from the Smithsonian for reasons of health. He is now working on an illustrated book on the heraldry of Switzerland which the SAHS hopes to help publish. A next issue of the SAHS newsletter will include a list of Mr. Angst's publications and, if possible, also a sample of his impressive heraldic work.
