Abstract
The author outlines the need for a good record keeping system for conservators in private practice She explains why records are maintained, what type of records are needed, for whom records are kept and how records are kept. The records are divided into object files (written and visual documentation), analytical records, legal records, business financial records and internal-lab management records. The purposes of these different records are discussed in detail. In concluding, the author describes how these records may become important for future colleagues.
