This report describes several methods and the necessary attachments for producing fancy yarns for the carpet trade, and gives their designation in relation to the application stage. The use of fancy yarns for decoration and novelty effects in carpets is now well established fact, as can be seen in plain and patterned berber styles. Such yarns offer plenty of scope for designers and technologists to create fresh and exciting carpet textures. In order to produce a fancy carpet yarn on any of the existing spinning systems, various mechanical and electronic attachments are often necessary at the carding, spinning or twisting stage. A comprehensive description of such devices along with the list of their manufacturers is given in this report.
