Abstract
Eastman Kodak Company has been manufacturing color negative print papers since 1942. Technological breakthroughs in couplers, stabilizers, and ultraviolet absorbers have led to significant gains in image stability. Processing advances have been equally dramatic and were achieved in concert with emulsion and base improvements. Film and printer evolution has also influenced color paper development. The advent of RC paper base has permitted selection of surfaces. This record of continuous improvement, form 1942's Type I KODACOLOR Paper to 1955's Type C to 1984's KODAK EKTRACOLOR PLUS Paper, is reviewed. Although the perspective offered is technical and manufacturing, progress was wide-ranging. (Abstractor's note: First presented at the second SPSE International Conference on Photographic Paper)
