Abstract
The article is geared towards the owner of works of art on paper and books in the private sector. A brief history of paper and books is given followed by the problems inherent in the materials themselves and in their susceptibility to environmental damage factors. Solutions to the problems are enumerated in logical fashion. For example, the positioning of prints on a wall to minimize UV light damage is illustrated, as well as the correct way to remove a book from a shelf without damaging the spine. The author suggests that the reader consult a qualified conservator with difficult problems of advanced deterioration -- AATA
