Abstract
Recounts the history of Jacob Ignaz Hittorft's fight to prove that the temples opf ancient Greece were highly colored. His first serious endevor to show how the classical style of the 19th century might be transformed by the use of color in conformity with antique precedent was the design of S. Vincent-de-Paul, Paris, begun in 1824. Describes the panels painted by P. Jollivet in enamel and baked according to a new process called Volvic, for the façade representing the Holy Trinity flanked by scenes from the Old and New Testaments. Set in place in March 1860, they were removed in 1861 (now in the Dépôt de la Ville de Paris, Ivry). -- AATA
