Abstract
The problem of international dissemination of knowledge of work done in the field of conservation and scientific examination of works of art is resolved with the use of computer facilities to deal with the processing of analytical work and to organize a scheme for the retrieval of the information about conservation. The system is based on a Hewlett Packard 2100, a mini computer with 64,000 characters of core storage, using 2 magnetic tape decks and the Real Time Executive operating system. The computer is used in chemical, crystallographic and physical techniques, requiring a background of a very large number of analyses. In the field of radiocarbon and thermoluminescence dating a permanent record of the work done results. The information retrieval makes it possible to recall all the information relevant to a particular specified problem by means of the featurecard system and printed indexes or inverted files.
