Introductory note on the building history, architecture, and interior decoration of the opera house, which was severely damaged by bombs in February 1945. Discussion is presented on reconstruction principles for exteriors and interiors (where modern performance techniques and equipment had to be introduced). Work being carried out since 1976 and reconstruction and restoration management are discussed.
