Abstract
Infrared reflectance measurements in the near and middle infrared have been shown to be capable of quantifying the thickness of a gypsum crust which is the result of artificial exposure of limestone or marble to sulfuric acid mist. Detection limits of. 015 milligrams of gypsum per square cm. on Shelborne marble and 0.43 milligrams per square cm. on Salem limestone have been attained. Experimental difficulties are described and future work suggested. -- AATA
