The author describes the building standards, first printed in 1103 (Sung period), which governed the construction of all public buildings in China for several thousand years. Public buildings were graded into eight categories depending on size, with eight grades of timber dimensions. A discussion of the architectural details is accompanied by historical information. -- AATA
