Oak and fir beams have been excavated at the Bundesdenkmalamt. Radiocarbon dating of the oak has revealed a date of 1280 ± 70 A.D.; the fir was dated 1400 106 50 A.D. Roman ceramics dated from the 2nd to 3rd century were found at the site. It was determined, however, that these pieces were washed to the site by the river. The wooden structures were identified as 15th century watermills by referring to documents, both written and pictorial, showing construction and function. -- AATA
