Abstract
A catalogue of artifacts which illuminate the history and culture from prehistoric times and later periods of the Moonlake area, approximately 40 kilometers east of Salzburg, includes several contributors discussing the work in progress. Underwater archaeological methods currently used are compared with those of the 19th century pioneers in Switzerland and Germany. These reconstructions support the theory that these were lake-villages and not lakeside dwellings that were inundated by a rising water table. The information presented includes climatology, variations of water-level, vegetation, types and techniques of building construction. The woods used have been identified. Finds include the bones of wild and domestic animals, fowl, and fish; and seeds used in their agriculture. The handcrafts and tools of the inhabitants are also examined. See also 16-261. -- AATA
