An expedition in 1984 investigated copper production in the area described in the title, defining major periods of activity from the Chalcolithic period (second half of fourth millennium BC) through the 13th century AD. Copper ores associated with various periods are described mineralogically and their compositions tabulated. Slag remains have been studied by composition and microscopically in cross-section, and the results used to reconstruct in part the archaeometallurgical processes associated with different periods.
