Abstract
The reviewer considers this the most stimulating and informative book ever published in English on the conservation of metals. Although not a how-to-do-it book, it should be required reading for all chemically oriented conservators. The review singles out Robert Organ's chapter on the science of the conservation of metals as essential reading for all students of conservation. Of special interest to the reviewer is the chapter by C. S. Smith on deliberate use of corrosion processes in art and technology, e.g., production of pigments and decoration of armor and weapons. The last section reports the answers to a number of set questions that include valuable personal experiences never included in more formally published conservation literature. -- AATA
