Examples are given of the selective action of corrosion in old Fe artifacts protected by various natural environments and having varying degrees of carbonization. The structure of the corroded area is examined microscopically to determine possible steps in corrosion. One of the oldest examples of a case of intercrystalline stress cracking corrosion is given. -- AATA
