Emphasis on the need for retaining small areas of overpaint, where possible, on three-dimensional painted objects. This is demonstrated in the treatment of a polychromed wooden figure where the layers of later paint are relevant to the object's history. Documentation of overpaint through photography and a method of filling separations with balsa wood are also presented.
